    Many of the computer conventions used to be pretty big, like usenix and the like. But that's been some time ago. Most of them are pretty commercial, suit & tie now. Later the networking conventions were pretty big.
    
    World con would probably be my vote. Big science fiction convention. Draws from all over the world. Rotates locations.

  For me it was Comicon in San Diego! Woo hoo! www.comic-con.org/index.php But I attend plenty of fun geeky events like Renaissance Faire as you can see from all my pictures in period costume.
