Excuse my rant but I work in a web development team of about seven men and I'm just craving female voices to speak to. Where are all the women who are getting busy with CSS, CMS and RSS? You must be out there but somehow I can't seem to find you and I'm stuck drowning in these man-built platforms like Drupal. Does anyone else feel like they are all alone?

Re: Where are all the women in web development???!!
Thu, November 2, 2006 - 3:27 PMWaves hand at you! Over here, web geek in female form!
I have experienced this feeling, being the minority in a sea of male geeks. I try to find women on the web whose work I admire (Molly E. Holzschlag...www.molly.com being one. Make a name for yourself and let the world know that it's not just guys who code and kick arse doing it!

Re: Where are all the women in web development???!!
Fri, November 3, 2006 - 9:06 PMI do not do Web development fulltime, but I have done it in the past. I have also been a Systems Programmer/Analyst, a Systems Administrator (for mainframe and minicomputers). I can program in UNIX shell script, C, C++, Pascal, SQL, HTML, and several other computer languages. Back in the 1980s, I even did some assembler programming -- 65xxx and others.
Yes, sometimes I felt a bit "alone" in the male-dominated culture of geekdom, but I showed them what a real "geekette" can do when she puts her mind to it...! *grins*

Sun, November 26, 2006 - 7:54 PMActually, there are a fair lot of us over in the Web Design tribe.
I guess that working in a male-dominated environment could get to you. I'll let you know in 3 years once I've been through 2 years at a college with a 7:3 male to female ratio. Yay technical school! -

Tue, December 5, 2006 - 3:10 PMWorking in a male-dominated environment can be trying at times, yes, but it can have its advantages, too. If you keep up with "the pack" and keep them on their toes, they do take notice. :)

Thu, December 14, 2006 - 10:54 PMThis here webmistress works from a happy home network. I'd like to work with other people- men or women, but I can not tolerate an office. Being a self starter I am an entrepreneur, seeking groovy clients. They find me in the oddest ways and places.
